How to decide on you unique outdoor wedding ceremony ideas
You might be feeling a bit like ‘I’ve seen it all before’ with thoughts for your wedding ceremony ideas for your arch or backdrop.
Your best friend’s wedding arbour had flowing chiffon. The other weddings you attended in the last year or two had draping foliage or paper pom poms.
Your ceremony backdrop is one of the most photographed parts of the wedding, and will be one of the first things you see at your wedding. How do you find your unique wedding ceremony backdrop that you love, and that doesn’t look like it’s straight out of a Pinterest 100 most favourites?
Don’t despair! We’ve put together some fun and funky ideas to give you some inspiration to create your bespoke ceremony backdrop or arch.
Tips for choosing the perfect wedding ceremony ideas for backdrops or arches
Here’s some helpful tips and ideas from years of wedding styling and planning experience.
Fabric arbour or arch
Is it windy? If it could be windy or is a place that is known to be breezy, avoid fabric pretty much at all costs. It’s not going to look great with fabric whipping around or being weighted down with bricks or anything else. Either that, or you are going to wrap the branches or arch so tightly that you will look like you’ve mummified it! If you love the idea of flowing fabric (aka Priscilla Queen of the Desert) – then embrace the wind and go for it! We suggest just using smaller strips or ribbon like below rather than large widths and lengths so Aunty Jan in the front row doesn’t get accidentally whipped with a rampant piece of fabric!
Hanging Ceremony Ideas
Hanging details always look pretty in trees or off arches. Using a professional wedding stylist is a great way to ensure you have a team that know how to create your desired look. I do know of a groom that broke his leg the day before the wedding whilst up a ladder hanging items!
Full or Massed flower arches
Would you like lots of flowers? If you can imagine a bridal bouquet being around $200+ and you are looking at an arch covered with flowers that easily equates to many many bridal bouquets, then that is going to be quite a few $$. I love Karen Tran‘s work (see below) but for most its not going to be a realistic option. However, there are other options for achieving a full arch effect.
Here’s some ideas on ceremony backdrops with flowers that give you the floral effect beautifully.
It’s hip to be square right? Yes, but you can also be anything in between and be super cool. A nice move away from the traditional square or arch shape are some wedding ceremony ideas below.
Reusing ceremony flowers
Are you in a position where family members or your wedding stylist can move the ceremony flowers to the reception whilst you are getting photos done? If you are having your ceremony on site at the same reception venue, this could be a doable option for you.
From the ground up
If you are in a space that has a stunning view and you would prefer this to be your backdrop, without an arch or arbour, this is fine too. Having a focal piece that is built from the ground up is a great option for creating a set space.
Your unique you
Whatever you decide this backdrop should be, it needs to be a representation of you are as a couple and your story. It’s where you declare your everlasting love! With that in mind we have included some more unique wedding ceremony ideas below to inspire your creativity.
The magic of night
You could have a night or sunset wedding ceremony which would be truly magical. Or, you could also transform your day time ceremony space into a night photo shoot just for two. Either way it’s dreamy and romantic and gives you some time after all the craziness to spend a few moments together 🙂
We hope you’ve enjoyed this article on wedding ceremony ideas. The main idea is that you can make your ceremony backdrop really whatever you like! By thinking out of the box you can create something very special and unique to you and your partner.
